Isabel Sörling is a vocal improviser, composer and musician, born in Ulricehamn in Sweden 1987.
She’s an artist who freely navigates the boundaries between improvisation, folk, and avant-garde, blending vulnerability with mastery. In 2019 she’ll release her third studio album “MARELD”.
She's currently based in Paris, often touring with musicians from France, Scandinavia or other European countries on the jazz and improvised scene. (Paul Lay, Cirque Farouche, Airelle Besson Quartet, Bribe4, Clement Edouard, Leafcutter John, Guilhem Flouzat, Damien Fleu, Cabaret Contemporarian, Coax Collective and more). She co-leads the two Swedish groups FARVEL and SOIL COLLECTORS and has also released two records under her own name.

Isabel has a bachelor in improvised music from the Academy of Music and Drama of Göteborg in Sweden. She specialized in improvisation and experimental jazz at the Conservatoire National Superieur du Musique et Danse of Paris. In 2010 she founded the sextet ”Farvel” in 2010, which received widespread acclaim by music critics, who defined them as one of the most interesting groups of young jazz musicians in Scandinavia. Isabel is considered one of the best and most promising jazz voices in Europe. She has performed in innumerable festivals, clubs, and theaters worldwide.
As a composer, Isabel Sörling has written “Mörka Hav” for Stockholm Jazz festival and “Glömd Horisont I,II” and “A dream I, II, III” commissioned by FSJ (The Association of Swedish Jazz Musicians) for string quartet and jazz quartet, broadcasted by the Swedish National Radio in 2018. She’s also written music and lyrics for all of her solo albums, and for the Scandinavian groups Farvel and Soil Collectors.
Furthermore, Isabel has sung on the two documentaries "HUMAN" (Yann Arthus Bertrand/Armand Amar) and "TERRA" (Yann Arthus Bertrand, Michael Pitiot/Armand Amar) and in the dance performance "Vertikal" (Mourad Merzouki/Cie Käfig).
